  • What age can students study voice? Eight to Eighty (ish). If a child can fluently read lyrics, they can benefit from instruction. If as an older adult you enjoy singing and want to stay in the best vocal shape you can, you will benefit from lessons too. Currently in the Young studio there are students aged eleven to early sixties. (Fun fact: once there were three generations from one family in the Young Studio! 😉 Currently we have two generations from one family and two families with three students each!
  • I want to learn to belt, or belt higher than I already do, can you help me? Most teachers agree, that the elite belting for womens’ voices, which is currently desired in music theater, also requires a fully developed ‘legit’ voice (head or mode 2) to have a balanced mechanism and avoid injury. So yes, we can work toward this goal, but if you are a beginner you will likely have a some significant investment of time and effort first. If you just need an extra note or two for a performance, yes, this is possible. Please ask me about belting for male and child voices which have some differences! Currently in the Young Studio there are are a few singers who can vocalize in belt to F#5 (side note, they been studying very regularly for several years)!
  • Are you available to adjudicate or visit as a speaker or group clinician? I love to work with students in a master class setting, or with large groups in a voice class. I also enjoy speaking with students and other teachers about voice pedagogy. I am involved with NATS and I adjudicate for our region and have been priviledged to facilitate group voice classes for several educational instituions in our area.
